Hot tub seaweed baths in cherry barrels, on the shoreline at Fountainstown, Co. Cork. Each bath is filled with naturally heated water and packed with wild bladderwrack seaweed harvested from the shore in front of us.
Seaweed bathing is one of Ireland's oldest wellness traditions. Bladderwrack releases its oils as it warms, softening the water and leaving skin noticeably different afterwards. Our Hot Tub Seaweed Baths run for one hour and cost €60 per person. Open Friday to Sunday plus Monday evenings, with tide-led golden hour sessions running seven days.

What Is a Hot Tub Seaweed Bath?
Bladderwrack is a brown seaweed that grows along the Cork coastline. Placed in hot water, it releases a natural gel rich in iodine, magnesium and alginates. The water turns silky and slightly amber, and the seaweed softens into long fronds you can wrap around tired shoulders and legs.
People have bathed this way on the Irish coast for well over a century. It is traditionally used for aching muscles, stiff joints and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, and simply because it feels extraordinary. We make no medical claims — but few people get out in a hurry.
The Cherry Barrels
Our baths are set in cherry wood barrels rather than standard tubs. Deep enough to sit in properly, with the timber holding the heat and adding its own scent. Each barrel looks straight out to sea.
There are six barrels, and each person has their own — no sharing. A group of up to six bathes together, side by side, each in their own hot seaweed bath.
What to Expect

Common Questions
How long is a Hot Tub Seaweed Bath?
One hour in the barrel. Allow a little longer for changing either side.
Do we share a barrel?
No. Each person has their own cherry barrel. We have six, so a group of up to six can bathe together, each in their own bath.
What does it actually feel like?
The water is hot and silky rather than slippery, and the seaweed is soft and warm. Most people describe it as the most relaxed they have been in months.
Do I wear swimwear?
Yes, swimwear is worn in the barrels.
Should I shower afterwards?
Most people do not. The oils keep working on your skin for hours, so many leave it until the following morning.
Is it suitable during pregnancy or with a health condition?
Hot water immersion is not suitable for everyone. If you are pregnant, or have heart problems, low blood pressure, a thyroid condition or an iodine allergy, check with your doctor first.
Can children use the hot tub seaweed baths?
Please contact us before booking — hot water immersion is not suitable for young children.
Can I book a barrel privately?
Yes. Private bookings for couples and groups are available.
