Finnish Sauna in Cork, on the Water's Edge
Funkytown's handcrafted timber-fired Finnish sauna sits directly on the shore at Fountainstown, Co. Cork, twenty minutes from Cork city. Heat, sea air and an uninterrupted view of the horizon — no artificial heat, no noise, no screens.
Shared sessions are €20 per person per hour, or €10 for thirty minutes, with up to six people per session. Private hire of the whole sauna is €120 for the hour and takes up to eight people, so the more of you there are, the better value it gets. Open Friday to Sunday plus Monday evenings, with tide-led golden hour sessions running seven days. Cold sea swims are a few steps from the door.
Looking for our Hot Tub Seaweed Baths? They run alongside the sauna in cherry barrels on the shore.

What a Timber-Fired Sauna Does
Our sauna is heated by burning timber, the way Finnish saunas have been built for centuries. The heat is dry, steady and deep. Regular sauna use is associated with eased muscle tension, improved circulation, better sleep and a clearer head. Most people come for how it feels afterwards.
The traditional rhythm is heat, then cold, then rest — and with the Atlantic on the doorstep, the cold part takes care of itself.
What to Expect
- Authentic timber-fired build — handcrafted, traditionally fired, no electric heater.
- On the shoreline — Fountainstown beach, with open sea views from inside the sauna.
- Private or shared — book the whole sauna for your group, or join a shared session.
- Sea access — the beach is a few steps away for the cold plunge.
- Year round — best in winter, honestly.
