Why are Sit on Top / Open Top Kayaks best for most Paddlers?

While many kayaks on the market today are close tops, these are not necessarily the most ideal. If you capsize on a closed cockpit kayak, you have to remove the spraydeck and essential ‘eject’, which can be hazardous. Once you’ve bailed out, you have to empty the now-full kayak of water, which can be a lot. More often than not you’ll need assistance to empty the boat before you can get back on. This can be an exhaust process especially if you’ve been out on the water for a long period of time.

With a sit-on-top kayak there’s no ‘bailing out’ if you capsize. You simply slide off the boat. Then it’s just a matter of flipping your kayak back around which is very easy.  And finally, climbing back on which is far less difficult and does not involve having to re-attach a spray deck.

The Single Kayak

The Freedom TRIPLE Sit On Top Family Kayak

The Freedom TRIPLE has all the perks of the double but with a little extra space for one smallie. The Funkytown Freedom TRIPLE can accommodate either two adults and a child or one adult and two children. It is easy to control and can handle choppy water without getting pushed off course by wind. The kayak comes with 2 x 2.2m aluminum paddles, 2 x deluxe backrests, and 4 x integrated fishing rod holders.
